Local Candidate Rules
Rules for Application for Consideration as a Candidate for the Integrity Party in Local Elections
The Integrity Party seeks committed, principled individuals who are dedicated to representing the values of integrity, fairness, and transparency. If you are interested in standing as a candidate for the Integrity Party in local elections, please read and adhere to the following rules and guidelines for the application process.

1. Eligibility Criteria
To be considered as a candidate for the Integrity Party in local elections, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
1.1. Age: Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the election.
1.2. Citizenship: Candidates must be a British citizen, or a Commonwealth citizen with indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
1.3. Voter Registration: Candidates must be registered to vote in the local area in which they intend to stand.
1.4. Party Membership: Candidates must be a current member of the Integrity Party at the time of application and throughout the election process. Membership must be active for at least six months before the election.
1.5. No Criminal Record: Candidates must not have been convicted of any criminal offence that would prevent them from standing for office under UK law (e.g., convictions for certain serious crimes).
1.6. Local Connection: Candidates must either live or have a clear connection (e.g., employment, family ties) to the area they seek to represent.

2. Application Process
2.1. Submission of Application: All prospective candidates must submit a completed Candidate Application Form to the Integrity Party’s Local Election Committee. The application form is available on the party website and must be submitted by the specified deadline.
2.2. Supporting Documents: Along with the application form, candidates must submit the following documents:

Proof of identity (e.g., passport, national ID, or driving license)

Proof of residency or local connection

A brief biography (maximum 500 words) outlining the candidate’s background, qualifications, and reasons for standing as a candidate for the Integrity Party

A statement of intent, explaining why the candidate is committed to the values of the Integrity Party and how they plan to represent the party in their local area

Any additional documents requested by the Local Election Committee (e.g., references, endorsements).
2.3. Candidate Interview: Upon review of the application, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with the Local Election Committee. The interview process will focus on the candidate’s alignment with the party’s values, their commitment to serving the local community, and their understanding of local issues.
2.4. Selection Process: Following the interview, the Local Election Committee will review all applications and make a final decision on candidate selection. Only those candidates who meet the party’s standards of integrity, leadership, and community commitment will be approved.

3. Code of Conduct and Expectations
3.1. Integrity and Accountability: As a candidate for the Integrity Party, you are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and transparency.
3.2. Party Values: Candidates must adhere to the party’s core values of fairness, justice, and equality. This includes conducting themselves with respect toward all people, regardless of political affiliation, race, religion, or background.
3.3. Campaigning: Candidates must campaign within the legal and ethical guidelines set by the UK Electoral Commission and the Integrity Party. This includes avoiding negative or misleading campaign tactics and maintaining a positive, solutions-oriented approach.
3.4. Public Engagement: Candidates are expected to engage with the public regularly, including attending community events, hosting public meetings, and participating in local discussions.
3.5. Compliance: Candidates must comply with all relevant local election laws, including financial reporting and campaign finance rules. They must also ensure that any campaign materials are approved by the Integrity Party’s election management team.

4. Financial Requirements
4.1. Campaign Fundraising: Candidates will be required to raise their own campaign funds. The Integrity Party may provide guidance and support on fundraising strategies, but candidates will be responsible for ensuring that all campaign donations and spending are fully disclosed in accordance with UK electoral law.
4.2. Party Contributions: The Integrity Party may provide a nominal grant to assist candidates in covering basic campaign expenses, such as campaign materials and advertising.
4.3. Financial Reporting: All candidates must submit regular financial reports detailing campaign contributions and expenditures, in line with UK electoral laws.

5. Campaign Support and Training
5.1. Candidate Training: The Integrity Party will provide candidates with training on electoral processes, campaigning, and public speaking. Candidates are expected to attend all mandatory training sessions.
5.2. Campaign Resources: The party will provide candidates with campaign materials, guidance on digital campaigning, and access to the party’s media team for press releases and communications.
5.3. Mentorship: Experienced party members may serve as mentors to help new candidates navigate the challenges of campaigning and public service.

6. Dispute Resolution
6.1. Internal Dispute Resolution: In the event of any disputes or concerns arising during the application process or the campaign, candidates are encouraged to first attempt resolution through internal party channels.
6.2. Appeals Process: If the dispute cannot be resolved, candidates have the right to appeal the decision to the Integrity Party’s Appeals Panel, whose decision will be final.

7. Withdrawal and Candidacy Removal
7.1. Withdrawal: Candidates who wish to withdraw from the application process or stand down before the election must submit a written notice to the Local Election Committee.
7.2. Candidacy Removal: The Integrity Party reserves the right to remove any candidate from the list of approved candidates if they fail to meet the criteria outlined in these rules, violate the party’s code of conduct, or otherwise act in a manner that is inconsistent with the party’s values.

8. Public Accountability and Ethics
8.1. Commitment to the Public: As a candidate for the Integrity Party, you are expected to uphold the highest ethical standards of public service, ensuring transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs of your constituents.
8.2. Post-Election Conduct: If elected, candidates are expected to serve their term in office with dedication and a commitment to the Integrity Party’s values. This includes regular updates to the public, engaging with constituents, and continuing to act with transparency and honesty.
